LUK clutches for cars
Precise transmission and smooth driving
The story of LuK (Lamellen und Kupplungsbau) begins in 1965, when entrepreneurs Georg and Wilhelm Schaeffler, already known for their work with INA, decided to found a new company in Bühl, Germany dedicated exclusively to the development of clutches and transmission systems.
From its early days, LuK has opted for innovation and precise engineering, designing components that would not only withstand the demands of modern traffic, but also offer greater driving comfort and less mechanical wear. It soon became a major supplier to manufacturers such as Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and its systems began to be installed in millions of vehicles.
Throughout its history, LuK has pioneered solutions such as:
- Hydraulic clutches for heavy vehicles.
- Dual Mass Flywheels to reduce vibrations.
- Self-adjusting clutches, which extend the useful life without intervention.
- Dual-clutch systems for automated transmissions (DSG/DCT).
- The system consists of two masses connected by springs or shock absorbers.
- Absorbs vibrations between the engine and gearbox.
- Prevents noise and shaking at low revs, especially in diesel engines.
One of his most influential inventions is the Dual-mass flywheel, patented in the 80s, with the aim of reduce torsional vibrations of the engine, improving the comfort and durability of the powertrain.
This technology is protected by multiple international patents and has been adopted by virtually all European manufacturers.
Today, LuK is part of the Schaeffler Group, together with INA and FAG, consolidating a legacy of German precision at the service of global mobility.
LuK is part of the Schaeffler Group, the world market leader in clutches for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and tractors.
Over the years, LuK has expanded its global presence, establishing factories and production centers in several countries.
Today, LuK remains an industry leader, supplying clutches and transmission components to many of the world's leading automotive manufacturers.
LuK offers high-quality repair solutions for the workshop, with original components and specialized tools. LuK also provides technical services and training for professionals in the sector.
