NGK

A spark that ignited innovation

Since its founding in 1936 in Nagoya, Japan, NGK SPARK PLUG has been synonymous with excellence in ignition technology. What began as a company specializing in spark plugs quickly became a world reference in technical ceramics, automotive sensors and precision electronic components.

The first spark was lit just a year after its creation, when NGK delivered its first spark plugs. This product became the cornerstone of its growth, marking the beginning of a global expansion that would continue unabated. 1959, the company opened its first plant outside Japan, in Brazil, and has since established a presence in more than 20 countries, including Germany, the US, Malaysia, and Mexico.

Over the decades, NGK has diversified its portfolio with solutions such as lambda probes (oxygen sensors), ignition coils, pressure sensors, and ceramic components for telecommunications and medicine. Its ability to apply advanced ceramics to multiple industries has been key to staying ahead of the curve.

In 2015, NGK acquired Wells Manufacturing, strengthening its position in the automotive electronics sector with more than 37,000 references. And in 2023, the company took a bold step into the future by adopting the corporate name Niterra, reflecting its commitment to sustainability and innovation beyond the internal combustion engine.

Today, NGK (Niterra) not only equips the world's leading vehicle manufacturers but also leads the development of technologies for electric mobility, medicine, and the environment. Its motto could be summed up in a single sentence: “We ignite the future with precision and passion.”
