Denso Corporation: Japanese engineering driving the future of global mobility

Founded in 1949 as a spin-off of Toyota Motor Corporation, Denso Corporation (株式会社デンソー) was founded with the aim of specializing in the manufacture of electrical components for vehicles, becoming over time one of the world's largest suppliers of automotive technology. Headquartered in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, Denso maintains close ties with Toyota, although it operates as an independent entity and is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

From its earliest decades, Denso has been committed to applied innovation, developing solutions for climate control systems, engine management, passive and active safety, on-board electronics, and, more recently, technology for electrified and autonomous vehicles. Its focus on R&D It is one of the most robust in the sector: it annually invests billions of dollars in laboratories dedicated to artificial intelligence, assisted driving sensors, vehicle cybersecurity, V2X connectivity and sustainable propulsion.

One of Denso's most notable contributions to the technological world was the invention of the QR code in 1994, through its subsidiary Dense WaveThis breakthrough, originally designed to track components within factories, transcended the industrial environment and became a global standard for information encryption.

At the moment, Denso employs more than 170,000 people in more than 200 subsidiaries spread across five continents. Its industrial presence is especially significant in Asia, Europe, and America. In Spain, Denso has production centers in Sant Fruitós de Bages (Barcelona), as well as commercial headquarters that distribute OEM components to manufacturers and workshops.

Denso's portfolio includes:

  • Air conditioning and thermal management systems
  • Fuel injection and emission control
  • Sensors, cameras and radar for ADAS
  • Electrification: batteries, inverters, converters
  • Active safety, connectivity and platforms for autonomous mobility
  • Thanks to its diversified production capacity and commitment to sustainability, Denso collaborates with leading brands such as Toyota, Honda, BMW, Ford and General Motors, delivering parts that meet high standards of durability, energy efficiency and safety.

More than just a component factory, Denso embodies the Japanese industrial vision of precision, technological evolution, and global responsibility. Its work powers millions of vehicles, smart infrastructure, and developments that will shape the course of 21st-century mobility.
